Would you attend a culinary school to become a better home cook?

There's a culinary program offered through a community college in my area. It's designed for students who want to work in the restaurant industry, but there's no requirement to attend full time, so I could take one class at a time.

It's inexpensive as culinary schools go, but still would be an investment for me - $500 for the tuition and books alone for this semester, plus I'd have to buy a uniform (!) and possibly new tools. I've seen the supply list, and, for example, they require a 10" bread knife while I have a nice 8" one. So that would be an additional investment. It'll cost me about $700 to get through baking 101! (Following semesters will be cheaper as fewer tool/uniform purchases will be required).

I already consider myself an intermediate-level cook but want to up my game. Just not sure if I should spend the time and money on this, or simply work my way through a Julia Child book at home.
