Atlas One - report

Nyleve | Mar 26, 2006 11:12 AM

So the other day I posted a question about a restaurant called Atlas One Cafe and got no replies. We had dinner there with friends last night. It was an odd experience.

The restaurant is on St. Clair West near Arlington. Cuisine is Middle Eastern - very pretty little place with a nice looking bar and, it seems, a sidewalk patio in the summer. The meal, however, was extremely uneven. It began with our (very pleasant) server informing us that they did not have any of the listed wines in stock - except for one Pelee Island red and one white - because they were in some dispute with the distributor. He offered us several alternate selections taken from a nearby Italian restaurant - all of which were pretty darn pricey for such a modest menu and didn't particularly go with the cuisine. An Amarone, for example, for I think $80 per bottle. Anyway, we laughed and took the Pelee Island.

Then the menu. Apparently the owner went on a vacation for what was supposed to have been one month but it's now two months and he's still not back. And so there are no specials because the owner does the specials. Also there was no fish (despite being listed) but there were shrimp and oysters.

The rest of the menu was very very limited - kebabs, some fairly nasty kibbeh (served in patty form, and crusted with I don't know what), chicken and beef shawarma. The appetizers were better but nothing to write home about. Mains cost between $11 and $14.

I don't know. Seems a waste. Such a cute little place but so messed up. Thought I'd share.
