Atlanta tamales/ Athens, Ga. tamales

eidolon | Aug 30, 200102:32 PM

I'd appreciate any tips anyone can offer about where to seek really good tamales in and around Atlanta. I can recommend a place over in Athens, Ga., that now serves some of the best I've ever had, the Caliente Cab Co. on Tallassee Road near the Athens Bypass. The people there are Peruvian, via Brooklyn, and the tamales are yellow corn meal with chicken, steamed in a banana leaf, topped with salsa fresca and served with a cup of some kind of yellow sauce. A significant eating experience, believe me. Makes me want to hop in the car and go over there and get one right now...Anyhow, I want good ones in Atlanta, and am _not_ interested in those canned horrors in a viscous orange puddle that are served in the local Mexican chain restaurants around here. I'm only interested in the real thing, homemade, and _greatly_ appreciate any particular tips. Thanks
