Recent Atlanta experience - Restos Toulouse & Eugene

I was in Atlanta last weekend and thanks to this board, had two very good dining experiences that I thought I'd share:

1) Restaurant Toulouse: A little tough to find for an out-of-towner, but well worth it.
Atmosphere: great - intersting art, classy, but comfortable and not "stuffy"

Service: mediocre at best, but the nice surprise of the evening was when our waitress apologized to us for the slow service, thanked us for our patience, and rewarded us with a desert on the house. We walked away feeling fine about it b/c at least she realized it.

Food: Very good.
Apps: eggplant fritters - not greasy, tasty, maybe a bit on the dry side, but good.
Fried chicken livers- dining companion enjoyed them, but found the portion a bit big/heavy

Mains: Crawfish & andouille crepe: VERY rich, but delicious and a nice Southern twist to the dish
Lamb shank: fell of the bone, veggies nice - more of a winter dish though, but excellent.

Desert: Bread pudding - YUM! with bourbon sauce and banana

Wine selection: excellent & they'll let you order anything by the glass as long as the table orders 2 or more glasses / bottle they open. Nice option. They also let you taste anything from the regular "per glass" menu.

Would definately recommend overall and hope the lax service was an anomoly.

2) Restaurant Eugene - Went for Sunday dinner
Atmosphere: lovely

Service: fine - not great. A little slow/negligent with no apology. We were in a booth and, at times, I thought we might have been invisible...

Food: excellent take on Southern food

Apps: fried squash blossoms stuffed with cheese grits - YUM!
peach, vidalia & bacon salad - onion too oniony (was "carmalized" on the menu, not on the plate). Had potential, but not quite there yet.

Dinner: Halibut on a summer panzanella - v. good
Fried chicken dinner with creamy mash & creamed greens - YUM! Best I've ever eaten.

Desert - pecan pie - it was perfect.

Wine - great selection with many options by the glass

Anyway, hope these 2 restos continue to do well as they deserve it and are a really nice break from all the huge chain restos in Atlanta and area!
