What do you do about wine with these two troublemakers. Not drink wine? I know they affect the taste.

I prefer no wine w/ artichokes. Asparagus has never been issue with me as it usually served roasted as a side. However I prefer whites if it is ever the center of dish like asparagus quiche.
Can I suggest an Italian "Grechetto".

I'm not a wine expert but live very near to a part of the world that grows outstanding asparagus and produces good wine. Location is lower Austria, the asparagus is La Marche and I find the regional whites excellent with the asparagus, especially the Gruner Veltliner and Welshreisling. Around here there is also spargelwein (aspargus wine), no it's not made with asparagus, but it is blended to be the perfect accompaniment.

Perhaps some of these can be ordered into your part of the world.
Traditionally, asparagus (at least the white kind) is paired with Riesling, Scheurebe, or Weissburgunder.
I prefer Riesling, but it's my favorite wine, period.
Simply prepared, sauvignon blanc is lovely with both.
With a butter sauce, chardonnay is a great match.
Kabinett riesling also works.
