Asia Tea House, Cleveland

We recently discovered this little gem on an outing to our favorite Asian food grocer at 3126 St Clair. They moved the butcher/fresh fish/amphibian area to another section of the store and the former area has been converted into the Asia Tea House. This tiny space has a predominantly Vietnamese flavored menu with just seventeen offerings - 2 apps of rice paper rolls, 6 soups and the remainder in various huge duck, chicken and pork plates over broken or regular rice. Nothing on the menu costs over 6.00.

Last week I enjoyed #8 Banh Canh Vit Quay - an outstandingly rich aromatic broth redolent of star anise, full of thin rice noodles and what seemed to be half of a sliced, crispy roasted duck. Heavenly. My husband had the #16 Hong Kong Style Soy Sauce Chicken over rice - appeared to be half a chicken covering a huge mound of rice with a few crunchy pickled vegetables and a bit of steamed fresh Chineses veg, maybe choy sum. Portions are more than generous, the food fresh and delicious and I can't get over the prices. Service was a bit slow and I hope they can keep up with the orders if the place ever is truly busy. If you aren't in a hurry this is definitely worth a little wait - browse the market for great goodies.
