Asadero El Mesquite (Ballard)

I have not been to many new/new-ish restaurants lately, but I did enjoy a recent dinner at Asadero El Mesquite. The concept is Mexican steakhouse, featuring fancier cuts of beef than may be used in your average taco truck carne asada. My wife and I shared the Peinecillo (which is "mexican-style" N.Y. strip). The meats are grilled to order over mesquite and served with nopales, beans, a few housemade flour tortillas, and "salsa de molcajete". All the flavors were very good, with the meat being just right and the salsa possessing a depth that is still memorable. The food was an adequate portion for two, but only after ordering extra tortillas. The self-serve salsa/condiment bar is a nice touch. The house special cocktail packs a punch. I'd like to go back from some of the rica, gut-busting antojitos (e.g., gordibuena, vampiros, etc.), or try the original outpost in Kent.
