The Mast Brothers moved their company Mast Chocolates up from Brooklyn to Mount Kisco about a year ago. They took over a long building along S. Moger Ave. just down from Metro-North station, and remodeled into a manufacturing facility, market and café. We had read in the New York Times that they partnered with the MET Museum in Manhattan in an artsy fashion. They have combined a line of their artisanal chocolates with artworks from the MET as part fundraiser, with a portion of sales going back the museum.
We went to visit early on a Sunday afternoon and downtown Mount Kisco was just beginning to stir. The most action we noticed on our drive thru town was at bustling Village Social on Main St. Pulling up to the Mast facility was inviting. They had put a modern design to the building adding a carriage house entryway. There are tables lining the outside. Once inside, our focus shifted to the large window into the processing area where big gleaming silver urns of chocolate were in constant motion whirring in a circle. There is a comfortable lounge and seating area and a coffee bar with blackboard menu overhead. Their house roasted coffees, teas, chocolates and pastries were on display. The market also included the colorful new MET gift selection.
As a teaser, we left with two of their popular chocolate bars: almond butter and hazelnut. It made for a good munch during our Sunday outing.
The Mast Market and Café are open to the public Wednesday thru Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. www.mastchocolate.com
