This place in western Newark (South Orange Ave., 2 blocks west of the Garden State Parkway) is excellent for breakfast and nice for dinner too. Breakfast -- they have the best pancakes in the area; Wonderful grits; I'm sure the homefries are great but I haven't gotten to them yet because I'm stuck on the grits; generally nothing very unexpected, just very well done traditional diner fare. Well two unexpected things -- the pork sausages are surprisingly spicy; and one of the meats on offer is "beef bacon", which I've never had or heard of anywhere else. It's beef cut and cooked like bacon, straightforward enough.

I haven't eaten dinner there enough yet to really give the full rundown; but the smothered pork chops are very good, as are the sides. And the desserts! Get the chocolate cake!
