I was watching the NHK World channel on cable, and I came across a short program about oysters. It was about a specific kind of sweet oyster raised in unusual conditions near salt/fresh water Lake Shiraishi. So I Googled it and found this Japanese regional food website:

I then found a couple of places in the area that look very interesting for local cuisine:

I realize that many people here are focused on Michelin star restaurants or sushi in Tokyo, but I just wanted to point out that there is a whole world of Chow travel that also encompasses culture, history, and physical beauty outside of the main tourist haunts, just like travelers scramble over many regions of Italy and France.
