Armadillo Depot in Worcester, MA

Had a chance to get BBQ takeout from Armadillo Depot in Worcester for father's day. I'm a big fan of all things smoked, and originally we were going to go to Firefly's in Marlboro, but life got in the way. As a result, I decided to check out this place, which apparently is under new ownership since last year.

We ordered a nice variety of things: St. Louis style ribs, the beef brisket, the pulled pork and a 1/2 chicken. Overall the flavor is good - not too smokey and the ribs had a nice smoke ring. However, the pulled pork was dry and the chicken had this greasy rub that really didn't add much to the flavor.

For sides we had this really good mustard slaw and very tasty cheddar and chili grits. We also ordered their beans and potato salad, but neither are very special.

We both agreed that the big shortfall at this place is the sauce - we got all three (hot, sweet, tangy) and they were all "off" somehow. Can't really explain it, but it seems like they were all the same except one had hot sauce, the other vinigar and third brown sugar thrown in.

Overall, this is a decent option if you are in the area, but since the sauce is lacking it detracts from the overall experience. I would give the place a solid B (with Fireflys and Blue Ribbon in Newton getting an A)
