I know this doesn't quite qualify as a restaurant, but I had to comment on Argo Tea House which I note is cropping up in locations throughout the area. I went in the Loop location yesterday as an alternative to any number of coffee houses in the area. However, my enthusiasm waned quickly after reading the offerings on the board and seeing what appeared to be 90% boring unoriginal tea offerings and 10% somewhat creative offerings. But things went downhill fast when I saw their prices (mostly everything in the $2 dollar and up range for tea). After making somewhat of an effort to get there (one block out of my way), I felt trapped and succumbed to ordering one of the cheaper selections, which was a berry infused iced tea. What I got was no more than an 8 oz. cup, filled to the brim with ice, for $2.64 tax included. Nothing special.
I thought about ordering a ruggelach (sp.?) but declined after looking at their soggy selection priced at $1.55 per 2" x 2" cookie. I can't believe this lame attempt to cut into the coffee house market. While I won't spend $3 everyday on a latte, at least there is somewhat of an effort put into making it that *somewhat* justifies the price. However, I don't think that pouring out some tea into a cup that's been steeping for who knows how long justifies their prices.
Sorry - had to vent.
