I have seen a few references to this restaurant in JP, but I was unprepared for how good the place was. First off the wine list was very interesting. There were not enough inexpensive reds, but plenty of reasonably priced whites-even by the glass. Definitly not middle of the road, there were plenty of wine choices to interest my jaded palate.
I had the mussels appetizer in broth with fennel. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. My wife loved the baked pear and endive salad with Great Hill Blue. She even saved a bite for me! We took the comfort food route for our entrees. I had the Duck Confit, which came on a pool of soft polenta with baby lentils and diced vegetables. My wife had the winter squash risotto with mushrooms. Both were just what the doctor ordered on a cool and misty night and they went great with our bottle of Gigondas.
The dessert was the best since Caffe Umbra's Fennel Bread Pudding. It was Lemon Semifreddo with cranberries and basil sauce. It was the basil sauce on the menu that intrigued me, but it was just a subtle touch of flavor. The semmifreddo was a cross between ice cream, whipped cream and panna cotta-infused with lemon peel. Absolutely delicious!!
I can see making a habit of this place. I just wish I still lived in JP!
