Ate at AQ last night ....Fabulous meal.
Sat at the Chet's counter. Great watching the kitchen at work.
Started out with an amuse of fennel soup with toasted hazelnuts. Really delicious.
They brought bread and butter. The bread was fantastic. I asked the expediter who was standing next to me about the bread and he told me it was from Firebrand Bakery. I imagine that this bread is pretty standard fare here in SF but they don't have bread like that where I live.
I then had the smoked scallop chowder which was so good I wanted to lick the bowl. (I didn't) I can't say enough good things about this dish. It was the highlight of the meal.
I wanted to try the Rye with brassicas but didn't want it as a main so I asked if I could have it as an app portion which they were kind enough to oblige.
This was a dish I normally wouldn't order but it was recommended here on CH and I wanted to try it. I thought it it was a very creative combinations of favors and textures with the mushroom pudding, egg yolk and grains and was a solid dish
Finally I had the Suckling Porchetta. Unfortunately I was getting pretty full and was tired from my all day travel so I probably didn't enjoy it as much as it deserved. The Porchetta was very tasty although I thought the portion was a little small for $34. Still I thought it was a really good dish
All in all this was a great meal. if this first meal in SF is an indication of what is to come then I am going to have some wonderful dining experiences here.
If I came back to SF I would definitely return to AQ just to see what interesting and delicious food combinations they are presenting.
