I finally made it up to Apple hill for doughnuts and must concur with Stanley Stephans assessment. Abels had the best apple cider doughnuts followed by a more old-fashioned type at Rainbow.
Of particular note, just down the road a bit from Abels going east is Boa Vista Orchards which has many different types of apples and there is someone there slicing them for tasting. From this I let my DH choose which he would like his pie made, a Braeburn, and I chose a few Mutsu for eating.
We also had some tasty cider at Rainbow. They said it was a great batch this day made from Pink Ladies.
