Is there anything more satisfying than finding a great menu item at a place where you didn't expect much?
We were in the Windermere/Dr Phillips area yesterday and looking for a simple lunch since we had the baby with us, and we came across the Peach Valley Cafe in Dr Phillips. We'd heard they had good breakfasts and decent lunch options so we popped in. The menu is simple and not very exciting, and the food we had was serviceable and the staff was super-friendly.
But, on the way out I decided to get some of their signature apple fritters to go, OH MY GOD THESE ARE AWESOME. Little sphere's of apply-cinammonly goodness with a yogurt dipping sauce we didn't even use. I have a new craving. I know they're not fancy or sophisticated or rare, but they are served hot and fresh and hit the spot. My only improvement would be to serve them with a mexican-spiced chocolate dipping sauce (like a churro) or maybe with some creme anglais.
If you're in the area, you gotta try these to let me know if I'm overhyping them on one visit, after all I am a doughnut fiend,
