What is the appeal of a tuna melt?

Inspired by an enthusiastic diner review on Tristate, I have to say I was right there with the reviewer through brown gravy and greek salad, but I can't get my head around tuna melts. It seems to me that the essence of fine tuna salad is chilliness, which is utterly destroyed by the addition of processed cheese food and heat. I can even see cold tuna on hot toast, like the pleasure of cold milk in a warm paper cup, but I think I must've had a greased-lightning tuna melt in a previous life, for I fear them.

Is there a Poet of the Tuna Melt out there who can speak to its obscure virtues?
