I met a friend for snacks and wine last night at AOC. We got there about 10 so no wait to sit at the bar.
I drank a glass of the Chateauneuf du Pape on offer. It was rich, without being overly assertive. Also tried a syrah blend. I thought it nice that the bartender lets you try several wines before committing to a glass.
I had already eaten dinner but that never stopped me from ordering more food. We shared the lamb skewers and the triple creme cows milk cheese. The skewers came with artichokes too. The cheese was spreadable on the bread and was decadent. Also liked the olive tapenade that was served in the beginning.
Finished up with a great tawny port. The "tawny niepoort, 10 year old". We were able to compare it to the lbv warres 1994 and preferred the niepoort. It was lighter in color and was quite a treat.
I had only been to AOC before to eat dinner. What a great place to just grab a glass of wine, although I think I would always be tempted to order some food, regardless of how recently I had eaten my last meal....
