Although Kloster is stupidly expensive, the food, for the most part, isn't bad. However, they ruined a quality Caesar salad by using iceberg lettuce. At those prices, they should be using the correct lettuce. Iceberg was not meant for a Caesar salad.
However, it was a nice show for the family who had never had fondue, crepes Suzette or Caesar salad. For me it was a blast from the past … sort of.
There were little glitches and the servers were not pleased with me in the least and it showed in their faces.
The big problem was that they listed steak fondue on the menu and brought out a plate with slices of beef sitting on melted cheese. Uh, uh … no way … take it back. Don’t call it fondue if no pot is involved … especially if there is a huge photo of a fondue pot on the opposite page of the menu.
Fondue for some reason is popular in Guatemala. Kloster, a small Guatemalan fondue chain, charges 3 – 4 times what other places charge. Drinks such as orangeade were double the price. However, whatever they charged for coffee, it was worth it. It was a really good, full-bodied cup of coffee.
