A very cool (yep, he's still cool) Mr. Bourdain was in town for a booksigning Tuesday night at Joseph & Beth, Shaker Square. Playing to an amply packed house, he amusingly read two excerpts from his Cook's Tour book-one revolving around a fetid tete de veau, and the other an ironic observation to the degree of non-smoking in SF - situated in a bar that just begged smoking as natural as breathing.
Where did Mr.B. eat while in town? Good sources let me know that he was scheduled to eat at Lola, but was coereced into enduring a lengthy meal at the brightly-lit Fire(within walking distance from the bookstore), then on to Lola for some relaxing. If it had been up to me,(allow me my fantasy), I would have whisked him away around the corner to the lowdown Academy Tavern for shots and beers, a good greasy cheeseburger if desired, and all the smoking his lungs desired. Then to Lola. Call me next time.
