Annatto seed vs powder vs paste

I use to watch PBS Daisy Cooks and she made annatto seed oil for flavor and color in nearly every recipe.
Since I've run out of annatto seed, it's time to choose, seed vs powder vs paste.

I've yet to see the paste in a market without any preservative.

Anyone have enough experience with it to say whether it makes a difference seed vs powder vs paste and/or if any of the pastes one sees are any good vs DIY?
