Angkor Wat -- Used to be Good, Now is Terrible

Straight Talk Gourmet | May 11, 200202:26 PM

I remember five years ago going to visit Angkor Wat for what was then myfirst taste of Cambodian food. I thought it was great -- less spicy than Thai food, but with all the flavor. I returned last night and could not have been more disappointed in my meal. First off, the quality of the ingredients was at a low ebb. The pieces of chicken used in my meak were unrecognizable as poultry -- just a collection of oblong balls of discolored, rubbery tissue. Really grim stuff. As well, nothing we had any any meaningful flavor to it -- all bland. Last, the service, though very friendly, could not have been less attentive. Attracting a waiter to order or get the check was a herculean task. Something has clearly gone wrong here. Can anybody else confirm my experience here or do you have a contradictory point of view on Angkor Wat?
