Angelique: Order smart, eat happy

Mike Z | Mar 22, 2004 03:37 PM

Preceding my dinner at Zucca by about 7 hours was an exceedingly pleasant lunch at Angelique. My dining companion ordered (against my voiced reservations) a pedestrian French version of a caprese. Not terrible, but the tomatoes were of the winter moisture-pod variety, lacking any flavor... The mozzerella was fine, and the greens were delicious. We split a tasty fish soup, and I ordered duck confit. It was really outstanding - Two generous chunks of duck, crispy skin, some succulent chunks of fat, and the meat itself was sublime. The accompanying frites were crispy and flavorful. I think the confit was on the menu for about 8 bucks. I am not knowledgable in re: French cuisine, but this was really an outstanding dish, I would expect to pay twice as much at any of the slightly more flashy French Bistros about town and I would not expect it to be any better.
