I went with some friends last week to Angela's Coal-Fired pizza on Route 1 in Saugus. It's a great place for a casual meal. The pizza is cooked in very high temperature coal -fired ovens and comes out with a slightly burnt crispy crust. Fresh mozzarella is used on the pizzas and all of the toppings were of good quality. They also specialize in coal-fired chicken wings. These are cooked very simply -- just a little lemon and some herbs I think, but they were delicious and meaty. The salad contained romaine, not iceberg and had a nice oil and vinegar based dressing, not the sloppy commercial gunk that's usually offered in casual restaraunts. We just had wine and beer, but I think they have a full bar.
The place looks like it could be a franchise or part of a chain, but it is locally owned. The host, who we were told is the father of the owner, was very welcoming. We had to wait at the bar about 15 minutes for a table. The waitress was great, very attentive and good natured.
