Angel Food Bakery

Angel Food Bakery just opened this past week at the corner of Montrose and Paulina (one block west of Ashland). This is a great addition to the neighborhood, so please stop by to help their business (I live up the block)! They have an assortment of pastries and desserts (all homemade), coffee and tea assortments, cute decor.

I stopped by on my way to work one day last week and at 7am had my choice between fresh out of the oven rustic apple tarts or lemon ginger scones. On the recommendation of the barrista, I went for the scone---it was truly amazing and I am picky about bakeries because I always think I can make it better at home. It was light like a biscuit with fresh lemon peel and chunks of crystallized ginger (no Starbucks style "hard as a rock" scone here). Went back this weekend with my husband for the sticky bun (not usually one of my favorites, but it was excellent) and an apple tart (excellent). The smoked salmon foccaccia also looked inviting.

Owner also makes special order wedding cakes that look beautiful in pictures. This storefront location hasn't been lucky in the last 3 years, so stop by to try it out. For now, the hours are only 7am-5pm except 9am-2pm on Sunday--hopefully the hours will be extended into the evening for desserts (rice pudding, chocolate pudding, and others were in the display case).
