In October I stopped in Fremont at a roadside dhaba, Anda Lari, for a quick bite.
You order, pay and retrieve your food at the counter.
Dhabas are akin to truck stops and this one comes complete with sleeping cots as amenities. https://scroll.in/article/815912/cot-...
Green masasla half fry, $5.49 featured a pair of barely cooked eggs doused with fiery green mint chutney, chopped tomatoes, scallions and chile peppers and a puddle of butter. Served with a split pav, similar to a fluffy Parkerhouse roll, for mopping, this was incredibly filling and oh so tasty. However, those who faint at the sight of jiggly, clear egg whites should avoid this dish.
Classic mutton frankie, $5.70, rolled up ground lamb with crunchy veggies and chutneys in a very thin and blistered roti. The roti was actually closer to a flour tortilla than an Indian flatbread. This was a flavor bomb as well.
The cashier was not that comfortable speaking English and the other staff were not able to answer my questions about the dishes either. The illustrated menu made ordering a little easier. Maybe I lucked out, as I liked both of these snacks though one dish would have been more than enough for my early dinner.
