I walked into Ancora on Wednesday night and was very pleased that I did so. The former "C Restaurant" dining room has been brightened and updated to produce a nice space, complete with lots of light and white tablecloths. Thankfully, the room was quiet in contrast to most other new spots in town that seem compelled to dish out loud techno-music (and yes, I'm far from a millennial). Service was flawless.
Sitting at the bar was comfortable and friendly, leading me to try one of the chef's signature pisco sours. It was worth the stop, even if one does not plan on dinner. I surfed across the mostly seafood menu very successfully, beginning with impeccable kushi oysters, then a few nigiri sushi (melt-in-the mouth toro and an uni that could have been a little bit fresher), then an excellent lobster risotto. All in all, it was a very good first visit. I plan to return soon.
