Amore Chocolates
10149 1/2 Main St BELLEVUE, WA 98004
(425) 453-4553

This was one of my boyfriend's finds. I've been twice now. This is a small mom-and-pop style chocolate store. They have a small selection of truffles, chocolate-covered caramels, chocolate-covered nuts, and other confections, most of which are done in dark and milk chocolate. They also make chocolate chip cookies, which always make the place smell wonderful.

They use Guittard coverture chocolate, which to me is the best coverture chocolate in the world. Their "Seriously Dark" truffle is a masterpiece--a dark chocolate truffle which is all about the flavor of chocolate, with no harsh or fruity overtones. I really like their peanut butter cups--it's nice to have a childhood favorite rendered with such high quality ingredients. Chocolate covered nuts are also excellent--the nuts are very fresh. We also had a confection (whose name I've forgotten)that was basically marshmallow with caramel wrapped around it. It had a wispy texture reminiscient of cotton candy. Chocolate covered caramels are okay, but not as good as the truffles and the chocolate covered nuts.

They have white chocolate stuff there too, but I don't really consider that chocolate, so I can't comment on the quality of those.

I was discussing with my boyfriend whether they'd have difficulty competing with the big two local chocolatiers. Overall, I'd say that it doesn't have as many different kinds of candy as Fran's or Dilettante's, nor any exotic ingredients (like Fran's grey salt caramels), nor are the surroundings quite as swanky, but I think they're a great place--what they do, they do really well. Hope some Seattle-area chowhounds will check it out, too.
