Amette Jamaican Cafe in Downtown Brooklyn

Lambretta76 | Jul 29, 2004 03:11 PM

I was wandering around Downtown aimlessly today fighting the urge to get another roti at Justin's and happened upon Amette Jamaican Cafe, which is at 192 Duffield - right off of Willoughby.

Anyways, the kicker which got me in the door was the availability of jerk pork, something you don't find too often here in the city. (The standard for jerk pork for me is Bev's in Ann Arbor, MI.)

Well, for the $5.50 lunch special you get rice and peas, cabbage, a hunk of fried plantain, and a small portion (about a dozen smallish chunks) of pork. Everything was good, not great - slightly oily, and the pork was heavily flavored of cardamom. Bev's has nothing to worry about, but it was an OK option in a scene which is quite lacking in lunch options.

(After an earlier review, I will be trying Duffield Seafood Express sometime soon...)
