"American" BBQ ribs vs. Chinese-restaurant style ribs

Reading the NY Times article on barbecue, it occurred to me that I have no idea how the Chinese cook those yummy red glazed pork ribs. The article seems to imply it's different from the smoking done for American ribs. Can someone enlighten me?
