amelia island fiasco

hi, i wanted to let amelia island bound chowhounds know about my latest trip there. we stayed at the island plantation. wonderful beaches and horrible, inedible food. the plantation has many different style restaurants, and all were bad. the food sounded typical, and sometimes looked and even smelled good, but there was always something wrong w/everything--slimy lettuce, hidden under ok stuff on the top, even a cheeseburger that was juicy and smelled good but was like eating something synthetic and tasteless. it's too bad such luxurious surroundings can't have at least edible food. we ended up finding a diner off the plantation that was great--the parkway diner.
someone on this board suggested the ritz carlton for cocktails; we arranged an important retirement get together there and were utterly disappointed. there was a 70's disco band playing so loud that no one could hear, the service was lousy and the drinks did not come w/the aforementioned bowls of olives and bread. it was embarrassing that we set it up thinking it would be a perfect way to honor this person.
it was comparable to a bar at a holiday inn.
i kept thinking, i have to warn you guys.
