Amber India recently relocated a couple blocks up El Camino Real to Los Altos. I stopped by for the buffet lunch last friday. I had been to this venue before when it was a Persian restaurant and nightclub, Hozkhouneh, many years ago. This is much nicer atmosphere than the dark and narrow Mountain View original.

On this warm day, it was lovely to be able to sit outdoors on the sunny and protected patio for the mid-day meal. Even though it was relatively late in lunch service, there were still many other customers there discussing deals and I was reminded that that I was in the heart of Silicon Valley.

The lunch buffet, $16.95 per person, was still well-stocked and the food looked pretty freshly prepared. I tried a little of everything, some 20+ items except for a couple chutneys and the fruit salad. Flesh selections --- lamb curry, fish curry, butter chicken & tandoori chicken --- were quite ordinary and not complex in seasoning. Veg items turned out to be much more interesting and tasty with higher spicy heat levels. I especially liked the Saag corn, Mushroom and garbanzo curry, Mint chutney, Raita, Potato masala, and Achar. Gulab jamun was good too. Naan was brought to my table, giving the appearance of being fired to order. But it was stiff and not warm.

The food alone's not a great value but the atmosphere's very pleasant and might make it worthwhile. I'm more likely to order ala carte on a return visit and focus on the vegetarian dishes. That said, I skipped dinner that night so perhaps I did get two meals for the price of one.
