i've meant to write about the veggie quesadillas at taco bite ever since i first had one a couple of months ago. last night, stopping in for an early-ish dinner and margarita on the way to the j train, i remembered just how good they are. (on the other hand, the margaritas are a little sweet and pretty strong...)
where your run-of-the-mill ordinary quesadilla is flat and wan, at taco bite, the veggie quesadilla (which is nicely toasted and crispy on the outside) is about the thickness of a well-stuffed sandwich, filled with a cornucopia of vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, red and green peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, cabbage, carrots... the vegetables seem to have been roasted (or perhaps even grilled?) before being tucked into the (not overly cheesy) tortilla pocket. Broccoli can be such an insipid disaster when it's overcooked (or mushy from being frozen), but the broccoli in the quesadilla is right on -- just tender enough but with a hint of lingering bitterness. their homemade hot sauce is great, too, both the red and the green.
veggie quesadillas can be so "meh...whatever," like the token vegetarian option, and even when the ingredients are good, they're not often worth raving about. i've gotten food from (and gone to) taco bite maybe ten times, but haven't been able to bring myself to order anything else.
(taco bite, by the way, is on south 4th and rodney...)
