Amazing Olive Oil, and from our own USA

riverwalk | Aug 8, 2009 08:30 PM

I did a lot of research about olive oil lately. I studied all the international and USA awards lists for the last 5 years then read about all the winners. I emailed the growers and ended up in some amazing conversations with people all over Europe and the USA. Then, I ordered oils from growers I thought had an edge in the ratings and "disclosed information." The winner is Apollo Olive Oil from good ol' USA in California. They are one of only 5 olive oil growers in the whole world to use vacuum extraction, so the oil doesn't oxidize in the processing stage. And, they are the ONLY USA grower/manufacturer to use this process. They have the highest polyphnenols and vitamin E ratings due to this process. I care about the health benefits, but guess what? We ordered lots of samples from all over the globe, and we LOVED the TASTE of their oil the best. They have 3 varieties, to please every palate and use. My husband likes the peppery bite, I went into this looking for health benefits and cooking use, not liking the taste of black olives at ALL. We each found a version from a different variety olive that we could love. Not only that, but for over 1 whole year I had suffered with acid reflux and heartburn. I read how good olive oil could "fix that." After a few days of taking 1 tablespoon a day, the acid refulx that used to wake me up all night for over a year, and the heartburn that used to bowl me over every day, went away and never came back. I had even tried all kinds of prescriptions and over the counter meds from the doctor for this, but the Apollo Olive Oil knocked it right out. That was 2 mos ago, and I still have no problems! Anyway, I since got to liking the more peppery bite of my husband's oil, but still like the milder version, they have 3 for every tastebud! I just had to brag about them, because we were so happy with what we discovered. Also, they were so FAST in shipping our order, and so really very nice, decent, honest people in the emails of questions and interviewings I did with them. If you read about the owners on their website at apollo olive oil dot com you will see how they are really cool, experienced, dedicated people. This sounds like a paid advertisement, but I assure you I don't have any association, never met them, and never got a discount!! They just deserve the praise. Check them out!! PS we first bought this oil from the local "Boise Co-Op" a supposedly local gourmet and purist store. It was expired oil, really old. Shame on them. When I ordered it direct from their website, it was much better. They have their date of production on the bottles, which is GREAT.
