So on the grail quest for meat on a spit in the Red Bank area I have a new hands down favorite, Melody's Cafe in Lincroft.
A soft warm no pocket pita covered with a mound of crispy brown shaved beef and lamb with just enough tomatoes red onion and romaine. There was extra amazing homemade tsatziki on the side.
This was one of the best gyros I have had in a long time.
$ 7.50 for the just the sandwich, or $9.25 with your choice of fries or Greek salad.
They also brought out a complimentary appetizer of crispy toasted pita bread and more of the delicious tsatziki.
Everything was fresh fresh fresh. And delicious.
Even the sit down service was fast, it took not more than 8 minutes for the complimentary appetizer and 2 minutes later the sandwich was there. Wow ! And it was busy at 2pm on Friday, nice family atmosphere.
Decor was pleasant in a blue and white motif. Yep. It's Greek. What else did you expect ?
They also do breakfast and early dinner, and take out. I was discussing moussaka recipes with Melody, so I will have to go back for that. They have been there for about a year, in the shanty town that also houses Luigi's famous square pies.
One of the other patrons indicated that they also have entertainment on the weekends.
By far the best gyro in our area, hands down. And I'll bet everything else is good too.
