A new Hong Kong egg waffle shop ( aka Gai Daan Jai eggette ) recently open up shop at FMP ( First Markham Place, Markham ) replacing one of the many bubble tea shops. It is located near one of the side entrance (on the south side), next to a Singaporean Pork Jerky place.
The place is called 'Eggette Hut' and whilst waiting for my ' Dark Chocolate and Orange ' option, I got a chance to talk to the owner. Apparently his father is the owner of a 30 year history, Honk Kong icon. At the Hong Kong flagship location, a 40 minutes wait/line-up is not uncommon!
Overall, the smell and texture were amazingly good. The outer texture of the piping hot waffle was crispy followed by a soft chewy center. The small, slightly bitter chunk of orange peel interacted beautifully with the molten chocolate filling! Some might find the end product a bit too sweet. However, to me, as a ' dessert ' snack, they were perfect!
One word of advise. Do try eating them whilst piping hot and crispy. The aroma, taste and texture is super addictive!
