On Saturday I had the opportunity to taste the '02 Los Rocas Garnacha de San Alejandro from Spain. This little gem has been review by Robert Parker at above 90 points, but what makes this amazing? $7.99 a bottle. I could have sat and just taken in the nose on this wine for hours, but alas, I had to taste it. It is a wine of surprising body and fruit for such a economical price. Currents, cherries, vanilla, and some pepper added in for good measure. The equal of wines eight times its cost.
After the tasting I bought a case. I should have picked-up two. I opened a bottle Saturday night, realized that what I had tasted had benefited from a little aeration, so I quickly decanted it, and it was that same wonderful wine I had smelled and tasted just hours before. I am not sure how many places around the area have it, I picked-up my case at Wide World on Wisconsin.
