I went to Amapola, near the corner of Florence and Compton, early Saturday morning to pick up a couple of things to make sandwiches later that day.

I bought a couple of their rolls--they're about 4 inches wide and 10 inches long each ($.70 ea)--about a pound of prepared carnitas (i think it was $6.99/lb), roasted salsa roja, and guacamole.

The rolls are flat out delicious, sort of like a kaiser roll but better. The carnitas comes in big chunks the size of woman's fist. The meat is flavourful, tender and not dried out.

The sandwiches were great. Well seasoned, warmingly spiced, pork goodness.

They make corn tortillas in the store, in case you're interested.

Lastly, my assistant lives around the corner from Amapola and tells me that they sell out of the rolls and carnitas by mid morning. I was there before 7a.
