We ate lunch at Aluette's yesterday for the first time. The small cafe is charming and Aluette and her husband are friendly, kind and welcoming. Everything served is local, and with a focus on fresh and organic food -- or as they describe it, "holistic soul food."
The food quality was excellent -- from the grilled chicken fingers and hand cut fries our children had, to the heirloom tomato sandwich my wife enjoyed (the tomatoes were bought earlier that morning at the wonderful Charleston farmers market), to my shrimp salad sandwich (wooo... gotta love the cayenne pepper in the seasoning).
The only downside was that it was a bit pricey for the portions.
This is low country cooking as it was meant to be! We will definitely be back.
