Better alternative to Rainforest Cafe for 8-year-old's birthday meal

My husband and I are bringing our two sons to Chicago on a four-day visit in mid-February to celebrate my younger son's eighth birthday. We have been to Chicago before, and my kids enjoyed the Rainforest Cafe. My husband and I, however, found the food to be ghastly. I cannot bear the thought of returning there, but I don't want to disappoint my son, so I am looking for a good alternative restaurant (preferably downtown) where you can get some of the Rainforest Cafe birthday experience (fun ambiance, special dessert or cake, maybe with sparkler, maybe with servers singing Happy Birthday), but with decent food too. We could do a weekday or weekend, lunch, brunch, or dinner. Any suggestions gratefully received!
