Dined @ Alta Strada last night. We had an early reservation and were seated promptly. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and the hostess was courteous. For that matter, the antipasto items we ordered and the dinners were fairly tasty. So, what's the problem?
It's too expensive and too noisy.
The sound level was very high; hard to understand why an attractive re-design of Figs wouldn't include carpeting or some kind of insulation against the noise that made conversation difficult.
Also, the wine list by the bottle is grossly overpriced (nothing under $40) and the $8-$11 by the glass would be ok in that the glassware is nice, but it is a very short pour for the price.
I ordered a pasta special with duck that was flavorful, but the kitchen didn't make way for duckling, as it was mostly pasta, and little poultry.
Dinner for 4 with 1 glass of wine each, entrees, and shared antipasti (3 items for $13), with no coffee or dessert and a nice gratuity for the good service came to $160, way too much for what it is, even in tony Wellesley.
