almond paste substitute

I have a recipe for apple-gingerbread dumplings that calls for putting a scoop of a combination of 7oz almond paste, 2 Tbsp molasses, and ground ginger, cinnamon and cloves into a half of a cored apple then wrapping it in pastry and baking it. I have a friend that is allergic to nuts so I need an almond paste substitute. I am thinking about using cream cheese, sugar and vanilla with the spices instead, does anyone have feedback or alternate suggestions?
