During this pandemic holiday season when our economy has tanked for so many, I focused my purchases on gifts made by local producers. One shopping stop was Alley 6, a small batch craft distiller in Healdsburg.
Early in the pandemic when hand sanitizer was in short supply, I had posted about Young & Yonder's product, distilled locally in Healdsburg. https://www.chowhound.com/post/healds... When that ran out, I visited Alley 6. Before the latest shelter-in-place orders, it had set up a tasting bar open to the parking lot. Three other customers (with two very cute pups) were enjoying themselves immensely.
While I did not have time to partake of the spirits tasting, I was curious about the 86'd Candy Cap Bitters. This 86 proof extract from wild candy cap mushrooms foraged on the Sonoma Coast combines its characteristic maple syrup aroma and fragrance with sweet baking spices, rye spirits and small oak barrel aging. The taste was quite beguiling, but I admitted to the staffer that I was not so much into home mixology. He then recommended using it for flavoring whipped cream and other dessert applications. Sold!
And I did not leave without several bottles of hand-sanitizer, available in spray bottles in various sizes for Christmas gifts. Sanitizers can ship throughout the US.
