Alisa Cafe - new location in Cherry Hill

Having read good reviews of Alisa Cafe here and elsewhere, a friend and I decided to visit on Saturday night. We were pretty disappointed with our experience, although maybe we just ordered the wrong things. Or maybe they're having teething problems in the new location.

My friend is a vegetarian, and we assumed wrongly that a Thai restaurant would offer a selection of vegetarian items. One entree - a curry - could be made without meat or fish, and she got that. (In retrospect, I wish we had also ordered the Pad Thai without shrimp so we could have tried that, too.) I got two specials: the crabcake appetizer and a pork loin stuffed with pureed mushrooms. I don't drink, but my friend tried to order a beer but no luck; they don't have their liquor license sorted out yet.

The crabcake appetizer was the only clear winner. The crabmeat was fresh and plainly hand-picked. The sauce was just the right level of spice to complement the seafood flavor. The entrees, though, were a real letdown. The vegetarian curry was pretty ordinary and the portion was small, especially for a $20 entree. The pork loin was overdone and dry. It came with gummy -textured potatoes and enticing-looking asparagus that turned out to be undercooked.

Total cost for two entrees, one app, and an ice tea: $63 before tip. I'd like to hear about others' experiences there before going back.
