Okay - so my wife is bringing me to Chicago from NYC in two weeks for my birthday. As part of the festivities, we are eating dinner at Moto on Saturday (GTM menu), and then Alinea (full tour menu) on Sunday (I know - it's crazy, but I love to do this kind of thing). First off, from reading this board (and others) what I gather is that Moto is fun and the food is fine in general, but it's more of a hit-or-miss experience, with some dishes being rather good, and a some dishes not working at all. On the other hand, I seem to gather that Alinea is the more spectacular experience of the two, and a higher percentage of the dishes hit the mark with fewer disappointments.
And now for your helpful input - my wife and I don't drink alcohol. Has anybody had the experience at either restaurant of having a juice or tea or water pairing? Does either restarant offer such an option?
Finally, a question regarding food preferences. I eat everything, no problems. My wife will eat all fish and fowl, but no four legged animals (meaning beef, lamb, pork, etc.). Also, she does not like cucumbers (don't ask....). Will the restaurants accomodate food preferences? If so, should we call in advance to discuss, or just tell our waitperson at the table?
Any input regarding these two reaturants and what to expect or what we can do to make the experience the best it can be would be greatly appreciated.
