Albion Strawberries from Santa Maria

Clinton | Jun 30, 201102:19 PM     25

Just got back from Nipomo and brought back several cases of the Albion variety of strawberries. Probably the best tasting strawberries around this time of year and grown locally in Santa Maria as the fruit stand owner says. Tried two different stands and found the one on Orchard Road about 1/8 of a mile north of the Broadway 101 fwy exit to be the cheapest and best quality. The other small stand on Tefft Road across Vons was higher in price and contained not all premium quality berries. Many were small and green on the bottom of the basket while the other stand had huge and ripe ones throughout the whole case. Prices were $14 a full case, $7 half case, and $4 for a clamshell for the stand on Orchard. Berries were picked fresh that morning from the field behind the stand.
