We were in Albany for a few days and ate quite well. We had buffet lunch at Clayton's, the little Caribbean place on Washington Av just above Lark, lots of chicken dishes, all very tasty, salads, cornbread too. Nice service and reasonably priced.
We had an excellent dinner at El Loco on Madison above Lark; that place is really hopping. I loved that the rice is brown, loved the Dos Equis, loved the salsa and all our food (including soup), was only sorry the burrito was now white flour; last time I was there it was whole wheat. Still, this place is great; personally we liked it more than Mariachi, which costs more.
Also had dim sum at Ocean on Central Av near Westgate. Some very good (esp scallion pancake and stuffed eggplant), some OK (turnip cakes and 1 dumplings seemed a little undercooked). Very reasonably priced, with good service. I'd go back.
Also had dinner at the Vietnese where Van's used to be, on Madison above Pearl--I've forgotten the name. Wonderful food and service. We had a seafood dish with scallops, very nice, and a curried chicken, could have used a few more vegetables but very tasty.
Also had fantabulous cheesecake from Cheesecake Macheesmo (sp?) on Hamilton near Swan and ice cream at Toll Gate way out in Delmar.
Overall, excellent food, and downtown Albany looks better each time we go.
