The Al Fresco List

Chino Wayne | Dec 28, 200502:37 AM

No, not the Christmas list from one of Tony Soprano's goombas, but a list of food and drink venues with outdoor seating and service.

Something that we have here in Southern California that a lot of Chowhounds from the other side of the Rocky Mountains don't get to experience is enjoying outdoor life year-round. I am on a quest for the quintessential, laid back, relaxing and enjoyable Southern California drinking and dining experience, in the fresh air (or at least as fresh as it gets around here). Please help me compile a list of establishments that meet the following criteria:

-Food & drink are served in the afternoons and evenings.
-Optional seating and service are provided out-of-doors.
-The atmosphere and the clientel are strictly casual.
-The food and drinks have to be good, but not necessarily steller, and not expensive (on a scale of $ through $$$$$, cost must be no more than $$$).
-The cuisine may be anything.
-Patrons are not discouraged from lingering.
-The view, whether of the passing scene, local landmarks or mother nature is a big component of the overall ambiance.
-Bonus points if the character of the typical patrons of a venue add to the overall ambiance/amusement/experience.
-The venue is within a 25 mile radius of Wilshire & La Brea in L.A.

Please post your recommendations here, and keep them coming, so that all important Field Research by myself and my operatives can begin.
