I had dinner at Al di la yesterday, after staying away for several years. My 1st experience, going back to when they initially opened was negative, so-so service, having to dine elbow-to-elbow with strangers at a long communal table, not impressed by the food.
So, I've often wondered why all the hype. And I certainly was not inclined to wait in line for 1-2 hours to find out. All I can say is that I am so sorry I had not given this restaurant another chance sooner.
Now, they've clearly given up the communal seating (probably long since gone), service was extraordinarily attentive, and best of all, the food just BLEW ME AWAY!!!
My monkfish entre great, one of the best I've ever tasted, with this incredible sauce, I have no idea what was in it. And the grilled calimari salad was extraordinary - I was completely transported. My SO's salad and pasta was also excellent.
I will be back soon!!! Especially now that summer seems to reduce the wait time somewhat as everybody else (except me) heads out of town for the weekend.
