Agra Cafe Silverlake: off night or off to weak start? Longish

Silverlake Bodhisattva | Feb 6, 200511:15 PM

Just tried the new Indian place in the Saito's/Nadbob/Tang's donuts mini-mall (Sunset/Fountain).

I hope this was an off-night for them, or they're in trouble.

Got there a half hour after the Superbowl ended. I REALLY wanted to like this place; persuaded spouse and Pup to go there and abandon their choices for dinner to do so.

Place was empty: I mean we were the ONLY customers there; better part of an hour later, one other customer had come and gone. Chow-spouse muttering "Not a good sign!" (Incidentally, Nadbob seemed to be busy...)

Appes luke-warm. Grumbling from the masses (or to borrow: "There are rumbles of mutinty among the crew!".)

Food over-all too oily, too salty for the taste of all those voicing opinion. If sag paneer and bengan bartha had once seen a vegetable patch, you couldn't really tell. Shrimp masala mostly soupy sauce, handful of tiny shrimp at bottom.

Gulab jamin served cold. I'm not sure it isn't acceptable to do it this way, but spouse likes hers heated. Chai tea good though.

Average opinion of family, on scale 1-10: somewhere about a 5.

Anyone else got other experience?
